The Panama City Beach Sports Complex is still under construction but dozens of events have already been scheduled at the new facility.

\”The goal for the year was 29 and we\’re already expecting over 40 events to be here. We\’re hoping to continue to push that,\” said Panama City Beach Sports Complex General Manager J.D. Wood.

The more than $30 million project will include nine artificial turf and four natural grass multipurpose fields, which is enough space to hold multiple events at the same time.

\”You could have five fields having one sport and the other eight having another. It\’s advantageous to add even more to the community,\” explained Wood.

Wood said with the artificial turf and other features the park will be a year-round destination and will have a huge economic impact.

\”The team that\’s already here with the TDC and the Panama City Beach CVB is already producing about 100,000 room nights and 75 million dollars\’ economic impact. This facility, the new sports complex, is going to continue to add to that and make it a year-round destination,\” said Wood.

The sports complex is paid for by tax money from local hotels. Revenue generated from the new facility will add to that total which could lead to more development.

Wood said they plan to finish the sports complex by July 5th. They\’ll hold a grand opening in the fall.
